Vagina Museum: Neighbours posters

Category: Print; Entrant: The Or

When London’s Vagina Museum re-opened in 2022, it had a limited budget available to let the world, and its immediate neighbours, know it was open for business again. The museum, which aims to tackle stigma and raise knowledge around gynaecological health, launched in 2017 and opened its first space in Camden in 2019 before relocating to Bethnal Green in 2022.

To help the museum establish itself in its new home, The Or devised a provocative poster campaign that had some fun with the names of nearby East London businesses, as well as the euphemistic language often used for women’s genitals.

The bubblegum pink palette, as well as cheeky references to the surrounding area, helped the museum settle into the neighbourhood – although its physical space has since closed. As well as raising awareness, the campaign helped support the museum’s operations, with sales of posters raising £2,000 in ten days.
