Kino/Film: Soviet Posters of the Silent Screen
GRAD: Gallery for Russian Arts and Design, London
17 Jan – 29 Mar
Exhibition examining ‘the golden age of Soviet film posters’ – the 1920s – a time when new and radical graphic design was being created to advertise silent films in the Soviet Union. Techniques such as montage, repetition, and asymmetric viewpoints were used in both the (often propagandist) poster art and films of the time, creating a distinctive and influential design style. Mass produced at the time, only a few originals survive today.
Tom Wood – Landscapes
Mostyn, Llandudno, Wales

The first show of a touring exhibition of previously unseen work from photographer Tom Wood. Spanning forty years, the work captures the wild landscapes and remote rural communities of County Mayo; Merseyside’s marshlands, urban scenes and wastelands; and panoramic views across fields and hedgerows in North Wales.
Biscuit Tin Photo Archive, a public engagement project, accompanies the show, stemming from Wood’s experiences of researching his own rural background, and being presented with a biscuit tin of old photos. Local groups and individuals are being invited to share their own images of rural life, which will form a constantly evolving, and integral, part of the exhibition.
