Resurrecting the Book

A three-day conference around the theme of ‘Resurrecting the Book’ hosted by The Library of Birmingham, Newman University, Typographic Hub at Birmingham City University and the The Library of Lost Books, to celebrate the opening of Europe’s largest public library in Birmingham. Talks will cover a diverse range of subjects from preserving ancient collections and recycling manuscripts to the future of print in the digital age.
Also on at the Library this month is the Library of Lost Books project, where a collection of unwanted and damaged books were sent to artists and printmakers around the UK, to be re-worked then exhibited in The Pavillion at Birmingham Library.

Hello My Name Is Paul Smith

Drawing from fashion designer Paul Smith’s personal archive, this exhibition traces the brand’s history from its beginnings in Nottingham to its international prominence today. Different stages of the design and production process will be explored, alongside an immersive digital room with moving image, and there will be recreations of Smith’s office and first shop with personal items and other ephemera.
Sheffield Print Fair
St Mary’s Church, Sheffield
Sat 16 Nov
A one-day print fair with local printmakers and artists from the South Yorkshire area, with array of screenprints, linocuts, etchings, woodcut prints and digital work, and demonstrations throughout the day.

Taylor Wessing Photographic Portrait Prize
National Portrait Gallery, London

Sixty portraits from emerging young photographers and established professionals will be showcased at this year’s exhibition, including editorial work, advertising and fine art prints. Thought Bubble: Leeds Comic Art Festival

International comic book and graphic novel festival, with workshops, masterclasses, panel discussions, screenings and other special events. Self-published artists and top retailers exhibit at the centrepiece convention event, and the British Comics Awards also take place in Leeds this week as part of the festival.
