WORK: A hexagonal woodblock font for property developer Anthology

Design consultancy Greenspace has teamed up with letterpress print studio New North Press to create a font made from hexagonal woodblock for London property developer Anthology.

The font is part of an identity created for Anthology’s new residential complex, Anthology Hoxton Press. Designed by Karakusevic Carson and David Chipperfield Architects, the development – a collection of one, two and three-bedroom flats – sits on a site that was once home to printmakers The Mullord Brothers.

The type system references the site’s history and the design of the development. Apartments are housed in two hexagonal towers named Mono and Duo, stretching 16 and 20 storeys high.

Wooden blocks were produced by Thomas Mayo & Co – who recently worked with Jack Renwick Studio on a wood-based identity for Hackney Wick development Carpenters’ Wharf – and are handmade from maple wood. Different textures and patterns were applied to each block using laser cutting to create a modular design that can be arranged in various ways.
