WORK: Absorbing website celebrates the life of 86½ year-old Joseph Markovitch

A new website, designed by Clubhouse Studios, brings Martin Usborne’s photobook I’ve Lived in East London for 86½ Years to life online, to celebrate what would have been the 90th birthday of its protagonist, Joseph Markovitch.

Originally published by Hoxton Mini Press in 2014 and now in its fifth edition, the photobook documented the last years of Markovitch’s life. The web experience features Usborne’s photos but also has audio of Markovitch talking about his life and experiences, as well as Usborne’s reflections on photographing him and what the experience has brought to his wider life and work.

As well as audio, the site offers the option of using the webcam to take an even more immersive dive into the experience. In all, it is a charming and thoughtful addition to the original book (which can be bought here). 86andahalfyears.com
