WORK: Wired UK masthead illustration by Alex Robbins

Illustrator and graphic designer Alex Robbins created this treatment of Wired UK magazine’s logotype for the masthead page of its latest issue. Rounding up some of his own stationery, Robbins spelled out the title using pens, pencils, erasers, sharpeners, pins and paperclips.

Wired commissions a new logo treatment for its masthead each month and the job is a very open brief, says Robbins. “I wanted to use a tactile approach and was drawn to my messy bag of stationery,” he says. “After colour co-ordinating the items I carefully placed the stationery to form each letter of the mark. Sharpening down pencils and meticulously moving pens to to fit the spaces correctly. The design was then photographed from above.”
