On trying to work in a building full of art
The art gallery can offer the freelance designer a quiet, contemplative space in which to work without distraction. Unless you start looking at the art. And the art is by John Stezaker, whose collages you really, really like….
Staving off freelancer hermitism, I’ve decided to get myself out of the house, find other places to work every once in a while. So today I’m at York Art Gallery. It’s a great spot – there are comfy seats, a respectable wifi signal and a serenity rarely found at home.
Just the gentle background hum of polite coughs and slow footsteps, interrupted by the occasional flat automated voice of the lift, filling the silence with a notification of her movements. It’s all nice, the perfect environment for getting my head down and some work done.
