This special edition of Jeff Lemire’s bestselling graphic novel Mazebook brings the symbolism of the narrative into the real world, using red embroidery to trace a path through the labyrinth on its clothbound cover. The story follows a grieving father as he attempts to track down his daughter, who he’s convinced is contacting him from the beyond.

HelloMuller created a bespoke logotype for the book, which appears in embroidered form on the back cover, where it’s intended to “mimic the angled, hesitant movement of someone drawing a line through a maze – a line which resolves into a flowing thread”.

HelloMuller took extra care with the materials, using foil stamping, adding a coloured ribbon, and using page-gilding to add to the special edition appeal. “The primary creative idea was to … translate the journals and the maze into a physical object, taking the reader along with the protagonist,” says the studio.
