Mucho used augmented reality to bring UC Investments’ 2022 annual report to life, adding an extra layer of interactivity to what is usually a static and not particularly exciting document. The studio used purposefully disorderly design to reflect the volatile state of the markets, posting it out in “a chaotic typographic black foil stamped envelope”, which opens to reveal a bright yellow cover that’s similarly scattered with letters, some of which spell out phrases hinting at bigger trends such as ‘Gas $’ and ‘Crypto’.

Readers are prompted to use AR, which turns the typographic illustrations created by John Burgess into on-page animations that show letters scrolling, rotating and rearranging themselves to form messages. As well as being eye-catching, the report carries a subliminal message for readers, according to Mucho, emphasising UC Investments’ ability to find opportunity among the chaos.
