Creative director Beate Karlsson marked fashion brand Avavav’s first runway show during Milan Fashion Week this year with an unexpected approach. To celebrate the occasion, she decided to draw on historic catwalk moments where models have fallen on the runway in order to create the ultimate awkward fashion statement.

Karlsson enlisted the help of Milan-based imagemaker Federico Pompei to capture the moment that each of the models in the show took a tumble. “The creative director and I worked together on a result that perfectly matches the collection’s conceptual aesthetic, where richness and decadence collapse into dark tones and freeze moments of embarrassment,” says the photographer.
